Lotz House
Witness to the Battle of Franklin
About Lotz House
Built in 1858, the Lotz House stands as a poignant reminder of Franklin’s Civil War history. Located at the heart of the Battle of Franklin in 1864, this home endured five hours of brutal combat as the Lotz family sought refuge in a neighbor’s basement. Despite extensive damage, the house later served as a field hospital, embodying resilience in the face of conflict. Saved from demolition in 1974, the Lotz House was added to the National Register of Historic Places and, since 2008, has welcomed visitors as a museum dedicated to preserving this powerful chapter in American history.
